Tips On Saving Space On Your Website
How do I create space on on my website?
If you have run out of space on your website or are seeing a message or email that space is getting low then here is what you need to do :-
- Media Library – Be sure to delete old image files from Dashboard>Media as part of your website housekeeping. In WordPress even though you have deleted a Page or Post or Product – the image still remains in the Library. You have to manually delete as well so click on the library and tick the images you a want to delete and then goto Bulk Actions>Delete. Be carefully to only delete image files you are a sure you dont need.
- Emails – This is a common problem where you have too many emails in your Inbox or Sent Items. A tip is to delete email with large attachments so look for the “Size” column and go for emails (that you dont need) that are larger than 1000KB which is 1 Megabyte. But sure to Empty your Trash once you delete to make sure they are gone otherwise they will still be taking up space.
- Archive Emails – If you dont want to delete emails then you can Archive then out onto your computer from the server to save space. You will still have access to the email but they will be stored on your computer rather than the server. READ – > Archive items manually – Microsoft Support
- Image Sizes – Get into the habit of resizing images BEFORE you upload as they your website will perform much faster with smaller images especially on mobile devices. Use apps like Paint /Photoshop or Photo Resizer or Google “Image Resize Websites”.
- Webmail – If you have access to Webmail.yourdomain.com you can login and quickly delete old emails via Webmail Home>Manage Disk Usage and Manage. Here you can delete all emails older than 1 year or an email over a certain size. Use carefully but very effective.
