Meta for Business – Page Appeal Scam
Facebook Ad Version – Be aware
This one is quite clever and to be honest we nearly fell for it. This scam targets Facebook Business pages that have active Paid Adverts running. The email claims to be from Meta Pro Team and the subject is “Verify Community Violations”.
What is alarming here is that this email has targeted a page that has an active Facebook Ad running. So the page owner receives the email above and is treatened to have the Advert disabled for the 3 reasons outlined above. The reason you might fall for it is …
- Fear and Urgency
- Looks Genuine
- Links to a genuine looking Meta page
If you click on the link then you are brought to a very genuine looking Meta Page Appeal form online
How the Scam Works
Once the page owner fill in the form above and hits submit then they open themselves up to the prospect of loosing control of their page due to hacker impersionation now that they have the page owners personal details. After all you have just given them your name, business email, personal email, phone number and page name which is all info Meta should have on you already.
Recommendation
- Verify Address – Meta will usually contact you via an email address that is associated with their domain.
- Check Links – If you hover over (dont click) the links you can see the site that they want you click through to.
- Knowledge Is Power – Share this information with anyone in your company or organisation who manages your page.
- Security – Enabling 2FA for your Meta account will mean a text is sent to your phone with a code that will allow you and only you access to your FB page.
